Getting recommended by AI, not just ranked by Google

For years, being found online meant one thing: ranking on a page of search results. That is still important, but it is no longer the whole story. A growing share of people now ask an AI assistant for a recommendation, and the assistant answers with a short list of names.
If your business is not on that list, you are invisible to that customer.
How assistants decide what to mention
AI tools build their answers from what they can read and trust. Clear, consistent information about who you are, what you offer and where you operate makes it easier for them to describe you accurately. Vague pages, outdated listings and conflicting details make it harder.
Three practical steps
- Say it plainly. Your homepage should state what you do, for whom and where, in the first few lines.
- Keep details consistent. Name, services, phone and location should match across your site, social profiles and directories.
- Answer real questions. Pages that explain pricing factors, process and timelines give assistants something useful to quote.
Being found now depends less on keywords and more on being easy to understand.
None of this replaces good design or a strong brand. It simply makes sure the brand you have built is the one people hear about.
